deluxe membership questions

i just recently started playing but i’ve got some questions about the deluxe membership. do most adult players have it? i say “adult players” because typically we have more of our own spending money than kids do. is it worth it? i’m worried that if i spend $44 on a yearlong subscription i might not keep playing that long (hopefully i do). i know there are other options too but that’s the best value. also it says you can cancel your membership anytime, but it seems like it’s a one time purchase? does that just mean it won’t renew it when the time comes? because it seems like it’s not a monthly payment and you have to pay all of it at once
