Did Sam Presti do something bigger here?
I decided to go off and research if the Thunder can now use Daniel Theis' salary in another trade, for say the Nets Cam Johnson, in an aggregate trade.
Since the Thunder used cash considerations, in the trade for Theis and not a trade exception, it appears that the Thunder can turn around and use Theis' salary as part of an aggregate trade. According to the NBA's aggregation restriction rules.
Perhaps someone who is more familiar with NBA trades can verify this? But the ESPN website said that their trade machine already has taken this into account. Meaning if Theis was not trade eligible, their machine would not allow it.
But if I am correct, by using the Cash Considerations, Sam Presti has the potential to trade for the Nets Cam Johnson, without trading away: Isaiah Joe, Aaron Wiggins, Jaylin Williams or Nikola Topić.
So Kenrich Williams, Ousmane Dieng, Dillon Jones and Daniel Theis (+ draft compensation possibly 2 FRP's) for Cameron Johnson.
Sam, Just Do It!
