Cam Johnson vs a “5”.

I think most realistic Thunder fans who objectively view this roster are somewhat torn about adding a player prior to the trade deadline. The player most often mentioned in a potential trade is usually Cam Johnson.

The “talking heads” indicate that several teams may be interested in acquiring Cam Johnson which will drive up the price. Most Thunder fans would be ok with a trade for him, but the cost in players going out and/or picks is concerning. Continuity is obviously also a concern.

Can we win a chip without Cam? Yes. If Cam goes to a legit contender does it hurt our chances of winning a championship? Probably. But the cost going out is really a potential high risk move.

We cannot win a championship without a 5. Chet’s health has been iffy. IHart’s health is now a bit of an issue. JWill has been spotty.

A trade on the margins for another cheap “5” might be the best insurance policy at the cheapest cost. It doesn’t move the needle as much on the top end, but is SURE increases the potential “floor” of this team significantly. This might be the move we make instead of Cam.
