Observations from an old head

In the last few years, Workwear, Vintage, Tailoring, Americana and Western have dominated menswear. These are all more or less apart of a very similar “aesthetics” and they all compliment each other seamlessly.

Seemingly everyone has fallen in love with RRL, Buck Mason, brand like Gap, Abercrombie and J crew have all released items that fit and support the narrative, even higher end brands (I’m looking at you YSL) jumped on board. Nothing new here.

I think for 2025, the line between workwear and streetwear will become more blurred and we will see even more of a blend of the two “aesthetics”. This isn’t necessarily a new thing, workwear and streetwear have always been blended (think 90’s hip hop) but I feel that there is a push happening especially with the younger generations where streetwear is taking a bigger step forward into the zeitgeist again. I don’t think sneakers are making a big comeback ala 2010’s, but the blending of these styles seems to what the “in” people are doing.

I also think brands like Rick Owen’s and more avant garde styles will be apart of this new blend. I feel like Japanese’s streetwear also plays into this as well. I have a group chat with a bunch of fashion boys and the younger guys seem to be leaning into the streetwear stuff more and more. This makes sense as y2K never seems to have fully left the mainstream of the younger generation, streetwear seems to have always had a predominant hold on their tastes.

As always, lend your thoughts, pick it apart, discuss!
