Quick catch changes - it still works

iPhone user here and looks like I just got the update that changed Quick Catching harder. Or so I thought. I think they maybe tried to make it easier?

They eliminated or changed the drag radius for the buttons such that dragging seems to pull the buttons outside the "active" zone. Before there was a large areas outside the buttons that would be considered "active" which allowed for the quick catch "bug."

It seems you no longer need to drag the button at all. In fact, dragging it seems to cause it not to work.

So, to quick catch before, you needed to:

  1. Tap and hold the berry or ball buttons.
  2. Drag to the the side or down.
  3. Throw the pokeball
  4. Release the berry or pokeball button
  5. Tap screen
  6. Tap run from encounter button.

NOW you don't need to drag. Quick catching worked very consistently for me this morning by:

  1. Tap and hold the berry or ball buttons.
  2. Throw the pokeball
  3. Release the berry or pokeball button
  4. Tap screen
  5. Tap run from encounter button.

So theoretically easier minus all the muscle memory we all have to retrain. But, as a user with a disability - no arm before the elbow - this actually makes quick catching more reliable for me. Dragging the berry button when I can't see if I actually tapped it and/or dragged it enough too far when my elbow obscures it completely made it semi inconsistent, especially in cold weather when my circulation is worse. (Worse circulation/cold skin = harder to activate a touch screen".

If Android users can check if the same is true for you, that would be spiffy.
