Sudanese History Research Question

I will soon begin writing a large essay in my history class. the essay is 4000 words long and must be well researched. I can write about anything historical but I want to write about Sudan. The essay must attempt to answer a research question and affirm a position by analyzing various sources. Currently my research question is "to what extent did British colonial policy influence the 1st and 2nd Sudanese civil wars?" but I feel like the question is lacking and that another more insightful, interesting or profound question is possible when discussing Sudanese history.
