Nervous about taking my first assignment.

Hi Group!

I was thrilled to see that Reddit has this forum. I need to take a position but I'm very nervous. I'm in Jacksonville, FL with a 10 year old son, only child. I will be 44 in March. I've been in Human Resources/Talent Acquisition for 16 years and had the rug pulled under me Q4 2023.

The job market is just getting worse and I've got to do this. I went through 4 hours of training. I have a Bachelor's Degree but that means nothing in the real world or how to manage a classroom.

I want to try for 5th or 6th grade because my son is struggling, but he REFUSES to let me help him and my husband is no help at all and he just lost his job too, so it's dire straights.

I know the basics like know the safety plan and all the little things, but I feel like I'm going to be walking into a pack of wolves. I'd rather do middle to highschool I think. I thought kinder would be the easiest to start, but after researching, I'm not so sure.

I want to know what's going on ahead of time so I can help my son. He gets so pissed about me taking the time to read the instructions because he won't read them. He hates to read! Says it all the time. I know I can help another child if not mine.

I'm not a math person. I'm not trained for ESE. What was your first time like? What grade did to you teach? What advice would you give me from your experience? TIA!
