Perioral dermatitis success stories? [Skin Concerns]
Hi all! My skin has truly gone through the wringer the past few months, and I managed to get a bit of a last minute dermatologist appointment a couple days ago, where I was diagnosed with perioral dermatitis (on top of regular acne, which I've had for forever). I'd suspected PD during my many skincare-sub rabbitholes, but I was never 100% sure so it was nice to get a professional opinion. My PD is all around my mouth, almost to my cheeks, and I think the bumps along my jaw/hairline and forehead may also be mainly PD at this point. (I thought I was dealing with closed comedones, but I guess it's actually mostly PD.)
I was prescribed topical clindamycin lotion and a 4% benzoyl peroxide wash, though the pharmacy was out of the bp wash so I started using the clindamycin and I'm hoping to get the bp wash this week. A little nervous about that because I've had skin barrier issues lately, but my derm seemed to think it was gentle enough so I'm going to follow her instructions.
Over the last few months I've read probably every perioral dermatitis post on reddit, and the number of potential cures and triggers (many of which overlap!) is overwhelming- I'm scared my PD is fungal in which case the clindamycin won't help, but again, listening to my derm because I'm mentally exhausted and I really want to believe she prescribed the right thing. I do have a follow up scheduled six weeks from now, so there's that. It's still too soon to tell whether the clindamycin is helping my PD, but I THINK it's helping the folliculitis in my eyebrows at least. Hopefully.
Anyway! Not really looking for suggestions to try right now, because again I've been spending way too much time and energy researching this and I want to give my derm's treatments a fair shot.
What I WOULD like right now is hope. I know how tough PD can be to deal with, both from reading about it and personal experience now. So please, if you've dealt with PD and gotten rid of it/made it manageable, please share below!! Doesn't have to be from topical antibiotics- I could really just use anything uplifting right now.
