Black Talon
So I’m sure many of you guys are too young to remember the Winchester Black Talon controversy.. From memory - 1990-92 perhaps 94.. The compressed version of this story was Winchester created this crazy bullet called the “Black Talon”. It was a highly advanced for the time reactive expansion hollow point bullet that would turn itself into the most nasty meat carving missile you could ever imagine. Difficult to describe. The projectile would basically turn itself into an eagles talon - inverse. With the claws or “talons” projected toward the target.. Just a nasty nasty thing of beauty. This bullet created so much negative press for Winchester - it was taken off the market.. Fast backwards for me probably 20 years. My late Father and I were kicking tires at the local gun show.. “Hey Pop’s look at this!” We had found several boxes of “Law Enforcement Ammunition” using the Black Talon Bullet. The Ranger SXT Controlled Expansion 230 Grain bullet.. The question. Should I fire a mag full of these through my new Sig P220 Legion tomorrow? Just to see what they will clock? I believe I have four boxes of 50. So eight rounds? Im thinking why not… ?
