A theory on ToG vs ACOTAR love
Ok so… here’s my theory on why some people love one series but not the other.
I think a lot of it has to do with where you are in your own life.
Not necessarily age, but whether or not you’re in the mindset of “I can change the world” or if you’re in the mindset of “I’ve accepted that this is my life and while I can change small things around me, I know I can’t change everything.”
I think the 2 series can be broken down into these 2 vibes:
Throne of Glass = “Go ahead, underestimate me. I’ll prove you all wrong in the end.”
A Court of Thorns and Roses = “Everything I thought I knew was wrong. Now what? Where do I go from here?”
While ToG is a coming of age story, ACOTAR is not.
Aelin is inherently special. A hidden gem lost to tragedy, waiting to rise to glory again.
Feyre isn’t special in the slightest. There is literally nothing unique about her until later. And even then it’s only because of the gifts of others.
Aelin changes the world by holding onto who she has always been.
Feyre has to learn to let go of who she was and change herself to adapt to who she has become.
Throne of Glass is a story about a kingdom rising again.
ACOTAR is a story about a person’s journey within themselves.
Or at least that’s my musings on these 2 series! What do y’all think?
