Tips for learning salsa at 30

Hey all! I have no dancing experience, and I know it will be lots of hard work and dedication, but I was hoping for anecdotes from older people who had no background in dance previously. I enjoy dance, and it's something I've always wanted to get into. I'd love to get to a level where I could do competitions, and I know that will probably take years of course. So any advice on how to start and to progress? So for those who learned salsa over 30, where has your journey in dance taken you? (I also eventually want to get into bachata as well).
