Newcomer who just played Romancing Saga 2: revenge of the 7

Hello Saga community

I am a long time fan of JRPGs. Grew up on Final Fantasy 4 and 6 on the GBA SP and later played through every game in the series. Also a huge fan of Dragon Quest. Never played the Romancing Saga, or Saga games in general though.

Saw Romancing Saga 2 had a remake and was curious, it got some mixed reviews but im a massive JRPG fan so I got it and I absolutely loved it. I love the relatively guided but still open ended nature, not enough to get lost but also gives a lot of player choice. I love the cycles system where you reincarnate, gives almost perfect portability to it as a life cycle is basically one gameplay sessions (or two sometimes). And I especially love the progression system, its so fresh and I usually hate JRPGs that mess with the tried and true level up system, don't mess with perfection, but this does it so well.

Now I understand that many of the Saga games are quite different from each other and also that this is, if I understand correctly, the only true remake (not remaster) on the Switch with the most quality of life updates. I am wondering if there are any other Saga games that are the most similar to Romancing Saga 2 on the Switch or if there are any preferences or recommendations people have for what to try next?

Ideally I would want something similar to Romancing Saga 2, but also just anything that is "traditional", like Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy, would be good too. But if the series always experiments im open as well. But, at this time, I have noticed I need a little bit of "hand holding" in games to get through. Didn't need that when I was younger but if there aren't quest markers or suggestions or a viable hint system I usually eventually give up. Loved Morrowind growing up but can't go back. Modern games spoiled me. So with that in mind is there any kind of recommendation list people can give?

Thank you very much, and hope the Saga community remans strong and vibrant for a long time. Such a relatively niche series, hope it stays active.
