How reading smut changed my life and helped me reclaim my power

This is a kinda confension / inspiration post about how books really changed my life. I hope its allowed here.

If there’s a book you’ve been wanting to read but haven’t yet, this is your sign to start. You never know how much it might change your perspective, your confidence, or even your desires. The right book at the right time can spark something powerful. It can remind you of your worth, open your mind to new possibilities, and help you step into the person you’re meant to be.

For me (F28), {King of Wrath by Ana Huang} was a game-changer. There’s one line from it that really stuck with me: “You - thrust - Are - thrust - My - thrust - Wife.” I even got it tattooed (yes with the trushts and everything) because it reminded me of how powerful desire and passion could be. It made me realize just how much I had been neglecting myself in my marriage and how miserable I was for not getting even a little of the emotional attention from my husband. But more importantly, it made me see how much potential I had to take control of my life again. I also got the line “Oh, Mia Cara” tattooed because it symbolizes the moment I began reclaiming my worth and strength.

{Hunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton} and {Haunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton} had the same impact. One of my favorite quotes from these books, “Run little mouse, IICYIFU,” really spoke to me, and I ended up getting it tattooed too, along with “Two Months Later.”

These books made me realize that I don’t need to wait for anyone else’s approval or affection to start living for myself. I got back into the gym, changed my diet, dyed my hair, got a ton of new tattoos in one day, and even started motorcycle lessons. It felt like I was finally starting to reclaim the life I lost after getting married.

Some things in life offer us more than we could ever imagine—like these books did for me. They gave me the courage to stop relying on someone else to define my happiness and start embracing the power I could find within myself. I’m not just going to be the strong woman in the books anymore—I’m going to be that feeling of power in real life.

The tattooed lines have become a daily reminder for me to prioritize myself, reclaim my strength, and stop waiting for someone else to give me the affection I deserve.

Sometimes, we need to dive into book stories that push us to challenge what we’ve been holding back, to ignite the passions we thought we’d lost, and to help us rediscover parts of ourselves we didn’t even know were missing. So, go ahead—dare to read what excites you, what challenges you, and what pushes you to see the world—and yourself—in a whole new light

PS. I finally got my desire and sexuality back. Being in an unhappy marriage somehow suppressed those needs. But now? I’m so happy for those books and how they helped me to claim them back.

PS2: The books I recommended – they’ve made a difference for me and im talking about my self. Just a heads-up to always check the trigger warnings before diving in. What works for me might not be the same for everyone, so it’s always good to be mindful of that. Happy reading!
