Romance versus Erotica

I read literally hundreds of romance novels in the 2000s, and returning to this genre now. I'm not judging anyone here, I'm sex positive and I enjoy reading the posts, but I feel like romance has shifted more to erotica.

Sure, sex is part of romance, but I feel like modern romance novels are identified by "specific kinks" through which romance is filtered - it used to be occupations through which romance was filtered. I feel like I see a lot more "orc who loves anal falls in love with princess" versus "firefighter/cowboy/billionaire falls in love with single mom". Neither is right or wrong, but it has been jarring for me in this sub.

What is the difference between romance and erotica, and do you think that line has become blurred over time?

ETA - I love how civil and willing people are to be in discussing this topic. Like I said, no judgment, but I am so enjoying hearing people's views.
