Why does my rabbit dig on me and nips??

I’ve attached an image of the culprit “Winky”. My newer rabbit is a young fixed male (under a year old) and has this strange habit where he hops on me on my bed or on the couch and digs and nips me and runs away when I try to pet him. He usually does this at night. I’m curious if anyone knows why he does this or has had the same thing happen with their? I had a previous rabbit for 7 years that never did this, and this guy bonded buddy Smudge has never done this to me (4y she’s more shy but affectionate). I’m a bit confused what he’s trying to communicate lol.
