Changing layer geometry

Is it possible to change layer geometry from Multiline String to Polygon (Multipolygon)?

I cannot find any option for it in QGIS itself, but maybe it is possible through pyqgis?
The layer that needs geometry changed has no attributes - it is an empty layer.
