Flex/Hybrid Class
Hi, I found out yesterday that one of my classes is going to be four students in person and nine students on Zoom, all at the same time. I got to give the school credit, they definitely have equipped me with the tools I need to be successful. My concern walking in is engaging the students on Zoom. They're at an immediate disadvantage because I can't see their nonverbal body language like I can for the four students that will be in person.
For the first week or two, I'll be using what the school gave me. This means that I won't be able to see more than three students a time on Zoom while I'm teaching. Once I get the flow down, I'm going to add my laptop, and I'll be able to see all nine students on my laptop.
Any tips you have on engaging students on Zoom, I'd like to hear more. I know breakout rooms are a thing, but I've never worked with them before. I'm also concerned about knowing whether a Zoom student has a question while I'm teaching and not in front of my screen.
