Phone unusable after update - Recommendations for alternative phone?

The update has made my phone virtually unusable. They have trapped me into a $50 dollar reimbursement I didn't select and won't give me a free battery replacement. I loved my Pixel4a and now I will never buy a Google phone again.

Does anyone have recommendations for alternative replacement phones? Similar size would be nice, thinking of an older generation iPhone but have no idea which one. Would rather spend 500 or less on new phone and not drop a grand. Open to anything but google phone, I'm not giving them a dime for ruining my phone overnight.
