The Gym Girls Were Right
January - I was diagnosed with PCOS, fatty liver, and high triglyceride levels. My symptoms included hormonal acne around my jaw, thinning hair, intense cravings, bloating, and a “moon face.” My waistline was 30 inches, and I was overweight.
What I Did: I started weightlifting. First, natakot akong magbuhat, so I stuck with light weights. As the months progressed, I learned that the heavier weights I lifted, the faster I saw results in managing my symptoms. I went from working out once a week to three times a week.
October- My OB cleared me of polycystic ovaries, fatty liver, and my blood panel is now normal.
I stopped having acne, and taking Yaz pills helped a lot with that. Metformin kept my cravings at bay. The swelling in my face went down so much that my friends accused me of having a minor nose job done (lol, pango kasi ako tapos biglang tumangos). I’m now at a normal weight, and my waistline is 26.5 inches!
According to my OB, sobrang bilis daw ng progress ko. Thanks to her, I started with a low-sugar, high-protein diet and began weightlifting immediately. My friends and acquaintances are now coming to me for advice because I’ve been making my progress public on social media since being diagnosed with PCOS.
Wag kayo matakot magbuhat. Hindi magiging masculine ang mga katawan niyo. The benefits of weightlifting outweigh the negatives. The more muscle you have, the more you can eat and the longer your lifespan will be. Pag dating niyo ng 40s, you're going to thank your younger self for building strength early on.
