The verdict is in! One week, 3 pounds down!
3 pounds down after my first week! 368 to 365, down from my highest of 378 in early January. I’ve had no side effects except some constipation right at first and a little nausea if I eat too much. I started taking 9 psyllium husk capsules throughout the day plus magnesium, so I got rid of the constipation quickly and I don’t think my 💩 has EVER been so regular and healthy 😂
My blood glucose has been doing very well! My reading hovers around 190-200 all night, and spikes to about 300 after my morning smoothie (my biggest meal). I take 60 units of Lantus before bed and on Tuesday my doctor said she wants to leave that as is and see if Ozempic starts lowering that morning glucose reading some more on its own. I take insulin throughout the day as needed. A year ago my a1c was 13, and while jumping through insurance hoops to trial the required meds before they’d cover ozempic, I got it down to about 9 a couple months ago. I’m getting labs drawn tomorrow to see where it’s at now.
I took my second .25 shot Tuesday and my appetite has been completely gone. I’ve been very addicted to food since I was 6 years old, I’m 39 and this is the first time in my life that I have ever been full without having eaten to the point that I feel sick. I’m already worried about getting enough nutrients so I’m going to be switching to a bariatric multivitamin.
My biggest meal is in the morning, I make a smoothie with a 40g protein shake, collagen, casein protein, chia seeds, fat free plain Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup of oats, and some frozen berries. It keeps me full all day and while I think I could make it to bedtime with nothing else, I do make myself eat bits of cheese throughout the day, roasted edamame beans, and one more meal even if it’s small. I just don’t think about food anymore which is wild. I’ll eat a small meal and be very full from it… I used to eat 5 servings in one sitting and feel only mostly full afterward—repeat 3-4 times a day, plus big snacks.
I joined Planet Fitness and met with the trainer. He made me a 3 day plan to work on maintaining/building muscle and incorporating a little cardio. I’m coming from a place of ZERO physical activity; not only does my size prevent me from doing much of anything, chronic pain and a very bad lower back makes movement even harder. But I’m now working with an amazing pain management doctor with the goal of eventually getting injections in my lower back. Right now he has me on Vicodin which does great at controlling the pain so I’m confident that I will be able to start working out and building up my endurance. First workout is tonight! I’m aiming for those 3 days per week but I’ll do more if my body lets me. I just don’t want to push myself too hard and end up putting myself out of commission indefinitely. Right now, any amount of activity is beneficial, even if it’s just a slow 30 minutes on the treadmill.
I’m going to weigh myself every Thursday on the same scale. My partner has a medical treatment every Thursday so I’m using the doctor’s scale. It keeps me from obsessing over the scale at home and being disappointed every time I weigh myself inevitably multiple times a day, lol.
