Do people with NPD dislike being shown empathy?

I heard today from a therapist youtuber (I know, let's move on) that narcissists will often interpret expressions of empathy towards them as attacks on them.

Someone in my life, who I highly suspect has NPD, regularly reacted that way when I tried to show him empathy. It was, in fact, such an issue that it contributed heavily to the collapse of our friendship.

Have other people also experienced this with narcissists in their own life? I can give examples if needed, just let me know.
