1A: Why are fewer men enrolling in college?
I heard a snippet of 1A’s segment at lunch on 8/27, and it just occurred to me to look up the transcript. The program was about how fewer men are enrolling in college (women outnumber men 3 to 2, where it used to be the opposite 50 years ago). Early in the interview, Jenn White asks “Is this really a problem?” She later references “friction…from our audience” in reference to reconciling that men still hold on to the majority of institutional power but there’s now this push to get back into college.
Do any of the experts ever answer this question? I can’t find a satisfying answer anywhere in the transcript, but maybe I’m missing it.
The reason my ears perked up when I heard this on the radio is because I heard the part where they were saying that “young men are beginning to see college as more female-coded” (paraphrased). I thought this was bizarre but fascinating.
