My mother’s simple word document will in Scotland.

Hi

Looking for some advice regarding wills. Based in Scotland.

I should state that my mum is on relatively good health and nothing I know of prompting this rather than trying to give herself peace of mind. My dad passes away a few years ago and all assets went to my mum. Assents currently will be a house fully owned (250/300k) and 50/100k max savings so I don’t think inheritance tax will come into play as the house will pass to the children.

My mum has just presented me with a print off of her will signed by her and two of her friends. The very simple break down she has requested is 75% of the estate split between myself and my sister. The remaining 25% is split equally between all her grandchildren. I have two kids, my sister three and my brother (deceased) has one. She has also named myself and my sister as joint executors of the Will.

There is a smattering of legalese through the Will and she claims she copied it from my grandparents wills.

My question is really if that will be fine once she does pass away? Untimely myself and my sister have know about this desired split of assets in one way or another since my dad passed away and I don’t see any issues regarding its implementation.

However is it really as simple as being able to whip up a word document as a will?
