Why the Roland hate?

Not that he's my favorite character or anything but I don't understand the sudden dislike towards him. I actually like his personality and chill demeanor. He also help trained koga, confronted the worm with agito and kuroki and was the strongest fighter in purgatory. All in all he seems to be a pretty decent character in the story.
