Delays getting specialist appointment !
Hello,
Ever since my father has had gross hematuria, it has been a very slow, grinding process to get proper follow up. It took two weeks just to get a CT which showed a potentially concerning mass. I am a resident physician in different specialty and pushed for an earliest cystoscope. But they wanted to get CT first before anything. And now, they are dragging their feet to schedule an appointment with an urologist.
The PCP finally responded today and told him to contact the urology dep't for scheduling. And for some reason, they scheduled an appointment over the phone with an ER doctor on Wedsnesday.
When my father tried calling the urology dep't, the rep apparently told him that he would need a phone call consultation with the ER doctor before scheduling any appointment with them.
Edit with update: It appears that Urology dep't triage the referral request themselves and that this task has been delegated to an ER doctor via a virtual phone call. He has no option but to wait until Wednesday to talk to the ER doctor for triage.
Do you have any advice on how he should approach the call on Wednesday to ensure that he receives quickest treatment that he needs? Should we try to push for an urgent an appointment?
If he ends up with a date that is too late, is it worth trying to contact other Kaiser locations? Should he ask to be put into a wait list? Does calling the dep't directly (perhaps asking the advice nurse to contact the doctor) help at all?
Thank you
