If having the option to remove random battles is good, why didn’t they add this in older jrpgs?

The final fantasy pixel remasters or FF7-9 re-releases on modern consoles added this option to turn off random battles. I think many people would agree this is a good idea.

If it is a good idea, why do you think developers back in the day that made the original Final Fantasies, etc, why didn’t they implement this as an option? It would make sense if it was a hard thing to do with coding or resources, especially back in the day, but I can’t imagine it would have been difficult. I bet they even had this option as a thing back then when they were testing things, and then removed the option when finishing the game.

So why do you think it wasn’t an option?
