First Time Hardwood Floors
After a few years of debating LVP brands for flooring all over our house, we decided 6 weeks before our first baby was due that we’re going to go with hardwood. Live sawn white oak wide planks. Well, engineered (5/8 w/4mm wear upstairs, 3/4 w/6mm wear downstairs), but they’ll outlive me and I won’t have plastic floors.
Very pleased with how it came out. Looks great to the untrained naked eye. Man, do I have a newfound appreciation for you hardwood guys though. Ive done everything from framing, roofing, finish carpentry, painting, excavating, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, you name it either casually or professionally. But this, nothing has beat the shit out of me quite like this (except maybe patios). Nor has anything been so tedious/complicated/etc.
Only did the first 400 sq ft upstairs, with another 1200 sq ft or so to do next year. Took about 10-15 heavily overlapped very slow passes with a square buff to flatten with 60 grit. Definitely sucking it up and getting that belt sander next time. The square buff really shined for those finish grits and screening before final coat though.
