Pet Tips: An Extra S.C.A.B. Manual page
This is a small guide on to how pets work and how to maintain your relationship with them
How to Tame a Pet
A player can tame a pet by using slurries made from the grinder. These slurries can then be dropped on the ground where a nearby animal can then eat the slurry and become a pet. A pet will often need 1-3 slurries to be tamed, so it is recommended that you should bring 3 just in case.
Pet: | Aphid | Weevil | Gnat | Baby Ants |
---|---|---|---|---|
Favorite Food: | Plant Slurry | Mushroom Slurry | Spoiled Meat Slurry | Spoiled Meat Slurry |
Notes: | Walk a little bit away as the aphid is a shy creature, but don't walk too far away or else it wont be tamed | Ants can only be obtained by befriending the ant queens |
Pet Houses
A pet can be stored in a pet house so the player can use a different pet (Only one pet can be used at a time). The pet house will be unlocked after analyzing the mushroom brick. A mushroom brick can be obtained by baking 5 mushroom slurries in an oven, which will produce 4 mushroom bricks. The UI of the pet house contains valuable information such as: How many days you have had the pet, How many times the pet got petted, their personality, their buffs when using them, their name, their favorite food, and what type of bug they are. Do note that the personality trait has no effect other than maybe helping you name them.
A poorly drawn explanation of the UI
Pet Happiness
The only thing that can only be seen from the pet UI, and that is important, is the mood of the pet. The mood is VERY important to a pet. there are 3 moods, going from best to worst it is: Happy, Meh, Sad. If your pet is happy, that means that, well, your pet is happy, and you have nothing to worry about. If your pet is "Meh" that means your pet is a little down and you might want to boost their happiness. If your pet is sad, then you should reeeaaly consider boosting their mood. If a pet is not in a pet house, the pet will instead wander the map and for example, in my testing, my base was at the base of the oak tree and my pet a[hid wandered all the way to the hedge, and even managed to get to the upper parts of it.
How to raise happiness
If your pet isn't happy, you should consider putting a basket in close proximity to their pet house, with their favorite slurries inside. Another way to boost their happiness, is to put down a campfire and put some food on it, soon, your pet will chomp down on that yummy roast and boost their happiness up one (For example, Sad - Meh or Meh - happy). You can also take your pets on walks and pet them to boost their happiness as well.
Pet Bonus Effects
When you equip a pet, you will gain a boost depending on what pet you have.
Pet: | Aphid | Weevil | Gnat | Baby Ants |
---|---|---|---|---|
Boost: | Reduces stamina drain while running by 20% | Reduces thirst drain by 20% | Increases speed on a dandelion tuff by 50% | +10 to hauling capacity |
Pet Attire
You can equip armor onto pets, you will know if you can put it on a pet if it has a little pet icon in the corner. The pet helmets are shown here. (Helmets are the only pet armor)
Armor Piece | Description | How to Unlock | Defense |
---|---|---|---|
Lil Goggles | Strap a pair of stylish goggles onto your bug friends. Fashioned out of slimy but sturdy grub hide. | Analyze mushroom brick | +2 |
Lil Red Helm | Give your little insect pals some samurai style. Fine gear constructed from a whole ant head and lined with supremely comfortable mite fuzz. | Analyze Mushroom Brick | +2 |
Lil Black Helm | Give your little insect pals some samurai style. Fine gear constructed from a whole ant head and lined with supremely comfortable mite fuzz. | Analyze Black Ant Part | +4 |
Lil Fire Helm | Give your little insect pals some samurai style. Fine gear constructed from a whole ant head and lined with supremely comfortable mite fuzz. | Analyze Fire Ant Head | +6 |
Pet helmets will double a pets max health and add some defense to them so they are harder to kill (On Mild and Medium difficulty, pet invincibility is on by default).
Notes
A known bug for pets is that they might disappear. In that case, the only way to get your pet back is to load a previous save. If your pet ant dies, return to an ant queen, and it will give you another ant.
