Real Life Experience - GSPro Computer Requirements
Short Version - 1060 will do 1080p on Ultra
Just thought I would throw this out there for anyone like me who is considering GSPro but is unsure on whether or not their computer can run it. GSPro has the recommendations on their website of a "GTX 1070 or RX 580 GPU, minimum." Seeing that I was initially scared off because the gaming rigs in my house fall short of that. It is also unclear from the website what graphics level that recommendation is for.
I am running it from my wife's gaming rig which has a 1060 in it, CPU is a Ryzen 3 1200. This was a basic, lower budget build 3 years ago so nothing crazy.
I finally took the plunge and purchased GSPro still not entirely sure how well it would run. But after seeing YouTube reviews detailing the setup it became clear you could turn down the graphics if needed, which was a detail I couldn't find on the website.
This setup running 1080p on Ultra settings had the GPU around 80-90 and ran flawlessly. I have only played a few courses so far and am aware that some are more demanding then others but I have not had any noticeable lag or screen tearing.
Also worth noting that I am playing this out in my detached garage 50 yards from my house using steam's remote play so I am not sure how that affects hardware usage. Could it be less because it is playing it on the desktop monitor and then that's being screen shared? Or is it more because its effectively playing it twice?
I am using this with an R10 which needs its own software running. That is also running back in the house and everything works across the network without issue.
Bottom line, if you want to use GSPro and are willing to give up some graphics you can absolutely get away with a lesser card.
If you have questions fire away, many of you helped me get to this point so I'm happy to pay it forward.
##############EDIT################
I am going to add some additional thoughts since it seems people are still reading this post.
I have settled on playing GSPro on High settings. Main reason is I am too lazy to switch. The above advice still holds true. My 1060 3gb card can and does play some courses on Ultra. It will also play a bunch on very high. On high I have not yet had it not play a course. Occasionally during ball flight on the most demanding course I will get FPS below 30 but it is usually only for a few seconds and is not bothersome.
I posted this originally more for people who already have a gpu and are wondering if they can play GSPro on it until they upgrade. This was the boat I was in because I am waiting for prices to come down. I am still waiting and having a blast playing while I do. GSPro on High beats the pants of Home Tee Hero.
If you are buying a GPU for the first time I would recommend trying to find a deal on one that has a bit more performance then a 1060. But if that's all you can afford and are okay with reducing graphics it will work, period.
I will do my best to keep answering questions on this post so fire away. The questions and answers are a good resource for others.
