Laureato 8010
Hello friends,
Some pics I took today of the fantastic Laureato 8010 in full steel and rose gold two-tone
This model was released in 1995 with the ultra thin caliber GP 3100 that was also used by the likes of the Vacheron Oveseas.
Luigi Macaluso was the Italian-Swiss CEO and owner of Girard-Perregaux who personally designed this beauty.
This model is the very first … the very FIRST … Laureato to have a mechanical movement. All prior models were quartz. So this special honor will forever be attributed to the Laureato 8010.
It was released in conjugation with the 20th anniversary of the Laureato which was first released in 1975.
It was not a limited edition but a limited production. 700 pieces made in steel, 800 made in two-tone and 250 pieces made in full gold. That’s it. If you extrapolate form the various dial colors and such, you will see that only 100 or so of each iteration was made.
The dimensions are 36 mm case diameter, 7.9 mm thickness and 44 mm lug-to-lug. The dial size is 27 mm.
The dimensions are almost identical to the laureato 38 mm except that the case and bezel is less “hefty” creating the elegant look. Note also that the bezel is mirror polished and the date wheel is white. This was the style to pay homage to past models and indicate special significance.
Applied indices and hands are in solid gold for the two-tone gold pieces. Tritium Indices.
Instead of the GP logo, you will see the number 12.
Laureato is engraved on the case-back and does not appear on the dial. Again, I believe this was done to retain a clean and elegant dial.
The watch is ATM 10 or water resistant to 100 meters. Elegant and also tough.
For those that feel that the 38 mm current laureato is a good size for them, they would be wise to consider the laureato 8010 as well. Naturally, this is no longer available at the ADs and one will have to source from the likes of C24. They are already considered rare and I believe they will become more rare in the future.
The GP 3100 is a robust movement and is fully supported and serviceable by GP. It is the father to the current GP 3300. No issues with parts and such.
These four pieces are from my personal collection with dials in Tobacco Grey, Blue and Champagne.
Hope you enjoy the pics ☀️
