SIBO

Hi Guys

I have suffered with GERD for the last 14 months and thought I would share my experience.

14 months ago I started to get severe heartburn, bloating, indigestion, diarrhoea etc which prompted me to go to the doctors. They put me on Lansoprazole while they did tests (which did help).

Tests included: H Pylori test (Negative) Q Fit test (Negative) Upper Abdomen Ultrasound (only finding was a slightly enlarged spleen but this was also the case 7 years ago when I had one) Full Blood Count (Normal) Allergy Blood Test (No Allergies) Endoscopy Diagnosed with Oesophageal Candidiasis and prescribed 2 weeks course of Flucanzole)

The gastroenterologist was very confident that after taking the Flucanzole course it would get rid of my symptoms - the symptoms persisted if not got worse.

I went back to my local GP and I was advised to take Lansoprazole for the rest of my life and get on with it!!!

I then booked an appointment with a gastroenterologist who then mentioned about testing for SIBO. I had to do a breath test which tests for excess Hydrogen and Methane in the small intensities which can then cause the symptoms I’ve been having.

The breath test is fairly tedious as you have to blow into a tube every 15 mins for 2 hr 30.

My results come back positive for SIBO and I was put in 2 antibiotics for 1 week. Rifaximin and Neomycin was the 2 prescribed to me.

It’s now been 10 days since I took the last antibiotic and my symptoms have almost completely disappeared- I’m in complete disbelief!!!

I know this will not help everyone but treating SIBO has helped me and it might help you too!

Good luck everyone.
