Unpopular opinion : OG is so overrated and Chapter 6 is way better.

Why I Prefer Chapter 6 Over OG Fortnite

First of all, I’ll admit that the OG Remix season last year was enjoyable. However, the current OG Fortnite experience just doesn't hold up for me anymore. The absence of mobility items, vehicles, and the overwhelming presence of sweat players has made it less appealing. In contrast, Chapter 6 brings a refreshing excitement with an abundance of mobility options, swords, and unique items that go beyond traditional guns. This makes the game more dynamic and accessible to a broader range of players.

1. Skill Is Not Just About Guns

One thing that has always puzzled me is why skill is often measured exclusively by gunplay. Not everyone has pro-level aim or the high-end PC setups needed to play on ultra settings. In Chapter 6, with the introduction of swords, Iron Man gloves ( season 5 actually them ) , and mobility items that can also cause damage , less skilled players can still have a fighting chance against more experienced opponents. Using these tools effectively requires strategy, timing, and adaptability, which are just as much a skill as sharp shooting. If Fortnite were only about shooting, then why not just play a typical FPS game like Call of Duty?

2. The Evolution of Fortnite

I’m genuinely happy that Fortnite has evolved over the years. The game needed to change to keep things fresh, and if it had stayed stuck in its OG era, it would have quickly become stale. The variety of mobility items, special abilities, and different combat mechanics in Chapter 6 has made the game far more interesting and enjoyable. The numbers speak for themselves: more players are enjoying Chapter 6 than OG right now . This is a clear indicator that the game’s evolution is resonating with the community.

3. Swords and Special Items Require Skill

I don’t understand why using a sword or special item isn’t viewed as a skillful strategy. While it’s true that swordplay might not be as common as gunfights, using a sword effectively still requires quick decision-making, smart positioning, and precise execution. It’s not just about swinging wildly and hoping for the best. Players need to outsmart their opponents, which adds an extra layer of strategy to the game. It’s not as easy as some may think, and it requires skill to master.

4. Mobility and Item Access: Making the Game More Strategic

In OG Fortnite, if your duo partner was eliminated close to the endgame, the chances of reviving them were slim. There weren’t many reboot vans, and no vehicles meant traversing the map to gather loot or to revive your teammate was incredibly slow. The lack of mobility options made it harder to recover from tough situations, and it often felt like the only way to win was through sheer luck, rather than strategy or skill.

In contrast, Chapter 6 offers a wider range of strategic options. Mobility items like cars and other movement tools allow for better positioning, escaping tough situations, or quickly accessing vital items. This variety encourages a more thoughtful approach to the game, where players can plan, react, and strategize rather than relying on gunfights alone.

5. Strategy Over Luck

One of the biggest flaws of the OG Fortnite experience, in my opinion, was how limited the strategic options were. Without mobility items or vehicles, it felt like the game boiled down to a gun party where the outcome often depended more on luck than skill. If you happened to have the right gun at the right time, you could easily win a fight. In Chapter 6, there are more ways to outplay your opponents. Whether it’s using mobility to outmaneuver them, picking up a sword to gain an advantage in close combat, or using abilities to turn the tide, the variety in tools and mechanics makes the game feel more rewarding.

6. Easier for Casual Players to Compete Against Hardcore Gamers

Let’s be honest, there are plenty of players who dedicate hours and hours to Fortnite every day, many of whom are younger (often around 16) and have the time and energy to get extremely skilled at the game. While OG Fortnite was largely a gunfight-focused game, Chapter 6 and also the previous chapters like 5,4 brings new mechanics, like swords and other items, that make it easier for casual players to compete against these hardcore players. Swords allow you to eliminate opponents who might otherwise have the upper hand due to their experience and time spent grinding the game. It creates a more level playing field for people who might not have the same amount of time to devote to getting better at building and shooting, and I think that’s a good thing.

While I respect the nostalgia that many OG players have for the early days of Fortnite, I believe Chapter 6,5 represents the future of the game. It offers more variety, more strategic options, and is far more accessible to a wider range of players. The introduction of mobility items, swords, and special abilities has created a more dynamic and engaging experience.

I’m curious to hear from OG fans: Why do you think OG Fortnite is better than Chapter 5 or Chapter 6? Let’s discuss and share our thoughts.
