"Just lower your standards bro"

One of the many "advices" people like to throw around. Honestly? It feels like my standards cannot go lower. Said standards are: "please just treat me like a human and don't ignore me". Probably many of you already have figured this out, but I had this realization somewhat recently.

I was at university with 2 guy friends and 1 girl friend. We were eating lunch and I was on my phone when they started to talk about cooking ("do you cook?/want to learn how to in the future?" kind of thing). Then the girl suddenly goes "hey (my name), do you know how to cook anything?". I got kind of stunlocked because I didn't expect her to do that and quickly said smth like "No no im actually quite bad in the kitchen haha" idk, maybe more or less cringe than that.

The reason why such mundane interaction is so important is because it made realize no girl have never done that before. That was the first time a girl, in a group setting, actually showed some kind of interest in me and what I had to say and didn't just ignore my existence. My guy friends were probably going to do that already but she was actually faster than them. Idk, it felt so weird to be acknowledged as a human by another human that wasn't a guy friend.

Those are literally my standards btw, no trolling, 100% serious. I just want someone to talk to like everybody does. I just want the "normal" experience. Do any of you feel the same? Or at least smth along the lines of it?

(Btw, I'm ESL, so if there's anything badly written, please excuse me as I'm still learning this thing Americans call "The English Language" 😔).
