Power steering rack failure

Hey guys, I’m currently experiencing a very upsetting setback. I have a transit connect 2019, I bought it used with only 30k miles. I use it for my snorkel tour business and everything was going well Until back in September it suddenly showed all of these warnings in succession that had to do with the ABS and power steering. So a reputable mechanic shop said the electric power steering rack and pinions needed to be replaced. It was 2500 all said and done. This really sucked but everything was fixed.

Fast forward to last week and I had the car detailed which included washing the motor since we live and work at the beach. The power steering warning came on and the steering locked up about a day later. I had it towed to the same place and at less than 6 months later they said it needs to be replaced again and that likely when they washed the motor the water got into the computer part of the rack and pinions.

Ok that sucks big time and is upsetting but they are saying the part can not be found anywhere now and it’s back ordered at ford. It’s hard for me not to feel like I’m being taken advantage of since it failed so easily? Like I’m driving around with something as delicate as a cellphone? And why is it back ordered…are they so in demand because they are all super shitty and failing left and right? They said it could be FIVE OR SIX MONTHS. To me this seems like a completely unacceptable outcome.

I pay about 600 a month for this van for my business and now I have to pay for a rental car to continue working on top of this. It’s so frustrating and I feel so defeated. Can anyone offer any advice or insight to this situation? I am in Puerto Rico if that info is relevant. Thanks for listening!
