2024 Witch Bolt vs Invisible Creatures

Help me, please. Based on how I read and interpreted the spell, you don't have to see the target for the lightning to bind itself. It just does. You make a ranged spell attack at disadvantage if invisible, and regardless of if it misses, they can continue that damage on their turn as a BA. Am I interpreting that right?

For example, a wizard chases someone into a 15x15 room. When he enters, there's no one there that they can see. No windows or other doors. The suspect went invisible and is hiding 10 away from the wizard who decides to cast witchbolt. Since it doesn't need to target, the spells auto binds, and a ranged attack spell is made. Even if he misses, the wizard SHOULD know where the suspect is now because of the bind.

Is that right?
