Need to surrender our sweet pup, but don’t want him to stay in a shelter…

Our hearts are broken, but our toddler has developed an increasingly serious allergy to our dog. It’s gone from eczema to hives to asthma despite all our best efforts. Our doctor has told us our dog has got to go.

We absolutely hate the idea of our goodest good boy spending even one night in a shelter. He’d be so scared. But we’ve been calling around and we can’t find a place that doesn’t require him to be surrendered to their facility. We’d much prefer to just direct adopt him from our home to someone else’s.

He’s a 60lb black lab mix (probably lab and chow chow). He’s was born in foster care and we adopted him as a new puppy. He’s now 7. He’s well trained and extremely sweet/gentle, especially with our 3 year old. He’s an anxious guy, so he needs trazadone for vet visits, long car rides, and nail trims.

Does anyone know of a place that can help us get him adopted to a safe and vetted family, but not keep him in a shelter while that family finds him?

We really appreciate your help!
