Dell Docking Stations vs. Universal Docking Stations
We are currently evaluating our docking station strategy for our fleet of Dell laptops. Currently, we utilize Dell-branded docking stations. Historically, we tied the laptops and docking stations to the same manf. to avoid finger pointing. We want to decouple these two decisions to allow us to make independent decisions. What are looking is experience and advice on the use of Universal Docking Stations (UDS) with the current laptop fleet. Specifically, if you can provide input on:
If using a UDS:
a. Current manf. for laptop fleet:
b. Make and model of UDS:
c. How reliable have you found enterprise-grade UDS to be in terms of connection stability with your laptop fleet?
d. Have standard updates to either the laptop and/or UDS been a challenge resulting in unforeseen troubleshooting?
e. Have you encountered any peripheral device incompatibilities with the UDS? E.g. monitors, printers etc.
f. Were there any other benefits of moving/using a UDS e.g, cost, flexibility, addl. capabilities beyond the manf.’s UDS, compatibility across different laptop makes and models, future-proofing, device management etc.
TIA for your valuable insights!
