Playing by the rules will be the downfall of progressivism.
Misinformation and fear are some of the most powerful tools used by politicians. I've noticed that while every politician will talk negatively about their opponent, there is some trends I've spotted between a left and a right politician.
More people are becoming less aware of the world they are living in, with everyone becoming trapped in some echo chamber (Reddit included). The more extreme and outlandish an accusation is, the more we are drawn in. It doesn't matter how much truth is involved.
The right will spend great resources to have bots, decrease education of the masses, promote violence, spread misogynistic or racist rhetoric. It will do anything to win, even if it means dividing and scaring it's entire population.
The left still wants to play by the rules. They think your average citizen can identify misinformation and can make a well information decision based on policy. They will still occasionally get dirty, but it avoids it at all costs.
The playing field isn't equal. One side uses our greatest human emotion (fear) against us, it doesn't matter how truthful the message is. This, along with technology and a population that is less educated presents a game that is rigged in favor of those that can better control our emotions.
Edit: For clarification, i am in the US. But I believe this will apply gradually across the world.
Edit 2: I'm not saying one party is morally right or wrong in this post. I am saying one end of the political spectrum will use misinformation more than the other. And this will result in the right side being more successful.
