Around the World Doubles, first try 2 months ago: 578 darts. Second try last night after a lot of practice... 223!!!
Alright so nobody in my real life properly appreciates darts all that much so I'm here instead to celebrate this personal win:
Last night I tried my second-ever round of Around the World Doubles. I'd done it a few months ago and it was a grueling exercise that took a couple of sessions & 578 darts to complete.
In the time since I've done lots of practice, dart swapping, grip adjustments, focus on throwing mechanics, and finally feel like I don't have to directly think so much about my throw as much anymore. I'd seen improvement in my 301 games, but hadn't specifically focused on doubles really at all since the first Around the World run-through.
So last night I decided to start another attempt at it, thinking it'd run over time and I'd have to put it down for the night & resume again like I had before. But holy shit I was in the absolute ZONE and have never felt better at darts as I did burning through the whole thing in about 30 minutes and finishing in 223, which is THREE HUNDRED FIFTY FIVE LESS DARTS than before.
The crazy part about that too is I was stuck on D9 for 53 of those darts, which sucked, but that means I did the rest of them in 170 darts. I had 12 doubles that took me 10 or less darts. I had EIGHT doubles that took me 5 or less, including 4 in a row (D5 thru D8). I was absolutely slaying it and have never felt such confidence in my dart skills.
I suspect if I tried a third time it wouldn't be nearly as good, but still, I know that I'm capable of this kind of game and this kind of improvement and it's really motivating me to keep going. Feels good man!
