Honoring the Old Logo

So, it has come to my attention the Commanders are considering a name change. Plus possibly going back to the old logo. I'm not saying the Commanders should go back to the Redskins (if they did, I'd like to see the NFL poll Native American tribes before they do anything. That can ruffle feathers, no pun intended.) However I understand why people want the old logo since it was a point of pride for Native Americans/Indigenous populations. The logo was a portrait of Chief Two Guns. Plus created by Walter "Blackie" Wetzel, who sat has the representative of the Blackfeet reservation and president of the NCAI (National Congress of American Indians). These are facts we can't ignore. The logo is history we can't ignore either, behind superbowls, memorable players etc. Again I'm not advocating for the name Redskins to return! Unless the NFL does an independent investigation into Native American reservations about the name.

Native Americans are poorly misunderstood and lack representation in this country. Reservation causes are rarely heard of, if at all. This is a plight that falls on deaf ears 9/10 times. If Harris brings back the logo, jerseys, etc. I'd want Washington to help with Native causes, such as advocacy groups, treatment groups, overall programs that could benefit Native American populations. Creating Native American outreach and helping bridge the gap between native and non-native people. This country is in debt to these people and we owe to pay our wrongs, I get this isn't 1754, but people tore Native Americans up in the end for what? War, land, resources, etc. A history of manipulation. However I'll list off some names and descriptions behind each name. These names will respect Native Americans, and will have a meaning behind the names. Again we owe Native Americans a debt. A debt to society that'll continue perhaps long after we're dead. Instead of keeping Commanders, the rank that ordered Native American genocide.

Washington Natives: This honors the Native American populations that settled in area before European settlement. It doesn't honor one tribe, it honors all tribes that settled what is now Washington, D.C. It is also inclusive.

Washington Windtalkers: This honors the Native American code talkers that served in World War I and II. And is inclusive to many tribes, Navajo, Choctaw, etc. It honors all Native American populations. Native American veterans are a highly unrepresented group amongst those who served.

Washington Blackfeet: It honors the contributions that the Wetzel family made to the team and the tribes warrior nature. Including the man behind the logo Chief Two Guns.

Disclaimer: I don't want the name Redskins coming back, however I don't speak for all individuals amongst the Indigenous population. And I understand the argument that the NFL turned it into a positive. Feel free to critique. There are Native Americans who find the Redskins name a point of pride. Pointing to the bloodroot plant. Which was used to dye skin before going into battle, tattoos, medicinally, or clothes.
