Prescription med rules are dumb.
So I've been in pain management for years. 10 years ago your doc would give you a paper prescription and when you needed the meds you could just take it to your local pharmacy and if they didn't have any of it in stock you could find one nearby that does and just go there to drop the prescription off.
Now (In the US at least) the doctor HAS to call it in.
This has happened to me the past 4 months in a row. My appointment comes and my doc calls in the prescription to my pharmacy but "its too early to fill" so I wait until I can fill it and it falls on the weekend when my doc office is closed. Pharmacy tells me they don't have enough in stock to fill my prescription but it's the weekend so I can't get my doc to call a different pharmacy so I have to fill the partial or go without so of course I fill the partial.
Then my doc has to call the remainder in once I am due... this has happened to me 2 times in the last 4 months. My doctors office is super annoyed with the pharmacy and me. The other 2 months required prior authorization... even though my doc already called it in. So it's the weekend and I can't get prior authorization so I have to pay out of pocket. Not the biggest deal but some pharmacists have refused to fill my prescription in the past because they wanted it to run through insurance for some asinine reason. Luckily that didn't happen these past couple times but its still certainly anxiety inducing
This is on top of all the other stupid regulations and laws on pain medication now. Don't even get me started on how the government is up the a$$ of any doctor who dares to prescribe pain medication.
I mean who cares if some of the general populace is in so much pain they will either seek pain relief in the black market, self prescribe other drugs or worse.. end themselves rather than deal with the pain. Who cares? Let's crack down on legal prescription medication and ignore the millions and millions of dollars worth of fentanyl and heroin that comes through the borders.
They REALLY need to go back to common sense laws. If you have a verifiable condition and are in constant pain you should be allowed pain relief and who are you hurting if you are actually ill and taking the meds? nobody but potentially yourself.
Sorry for the rant. Just needed to complain for the millionth time on here.
Appreciate all of you who read this rant. Hope you all can find pain relief and avoid the hassles and hoops that are being put in our way these days.
