Terrified New Cat Owner
Hey all, first time poster here.
So, I just got a sweet little cat today. He's roughly 6 months old (we don't know exactly). I've had him for a few hours now. He's used the litter box without any problems, he's drinking, eating, and exploring. I've played with him, and he seemed to greatly enjoy it. As I'm typing this, he's sleeping underneath my desk.
And I'm scared. Terrified, even. Not of him, obviously. He's been an absolute angel. No, I'm scared that I'll mess up. That I'll overlook something, or do something wrong by accident. I've cried a few times today, because I feel like I've made a terrible mistake. I don't normally cry much, guess I'm a pretty typical guy in that regard. I feel like I can't possibly take care of him the way he deserves. I've read up on cat parenting and nutrition extensively, I've scheduled an appointment with the vet next week to get everything necessary taken care of, and I've got a nice big cat tree on the way for him.
If I try to be objective, I think I'm doing alright. He seems to like me, and I know it'll take a few days for him to settle in here. Still, I'm a complete mess. I would really appreciate any advice or similar experiences you guys have had. I want to calm down, at least for his sake, but I don't know how right now.
Thanks for reading.
Edit: I never expected so many replies to this! I've left a comment to say thank you (including cat tax), but I think it has gotten buried under the sea of support and positivity, so I'll just add a huge thank you here as well. I'm doing a bit better today, and that is in large part thanks to all of you. Thank you so much!
