Rant: UK Net Zero targets costing drivers so much cash.

I’m from a country where you buy a used car and just maintain it for as long as you can. Road tax is an equivalent of £12.50 a year so you see older cars everywhere and it helps poorer people maintain a life by having an older car.

It’s just not possible in the UK and it’s upsetting S I can’t afford a newer car. I can only afford an older car but they cost so much to tax that it makes them unviable.

Example, my neighbour is an older lady who has a 1999 Toyota Corolla that’s in immaculate condition. Yes it’s old, but it runs. It passes its MOT but it’s now so expensive to tax she can’t drive it.

Poorer people are suffering because of the Governments CO2 targets, for a nation that only contributes 2% to global CO2 levels. Even if we reach Net Zero, it’s 2% it’s not enough and our citizens are paying the price.

I can’t afford a newer car and I would gladly buy her car off her but the taxes make it an expensive car to drive.

Infuriates me.
