Shifter cable adjustment

I just replaced my shifter cable on my 2003 GMC envoy 4.2l and now I can't get it to go into park. It will shift through all of the other gears ok and it will start when I put it in neutral so I'm pretty sure I have the linkage in the same gear as the shifter.
