Moving back to Brooklyn...considering Gowanus.

Lived in NYC for 10 years, 7 of them in Greenpoint. Left in 2021 after getting Covid cabin fever and headed to grad school (highly recommend if you want to take up a very expensive hobby and no more than that). Moving back because we're at that age where we probably should be within driving distance of family.

We REALLY don't want to move into a place sight unseen. That being said, inventory is low right now and I'm hoping to get a good deal on something. There's a spot on 14th between 3rd/4th (closer to 4th)* in Gowanus...it's NOT a brand new building (quite old, in fact). The unit is parlor level with full access to the unfinished basement for storage (this is a big draw) but I have concerns about its location to the canal (both toxicity and flooding).

I'm somewhat confident that this area is out of the flood zone but would love anyone with feet on the ground to chime in.

PS: Please be kind. I live in northeast LA and it has been brutal here.

*ETA: More details about specific location.
