Sunset Blvd. Let’s Talk About It…?

Let me start by saying I always go into shows wanting to love them. As I know SO MANY people put their heart and soul into putting on a show. I saw Mandy Gonzalez and Tom Francis…they both were very good in their roles.

With that said, I simply cannot get behind the hype that is around this show. The movie is one of my all time favorite movies but this is an Andrew Lloyd Weber musical, which means that there are going to be some standout songs and some songs which should have been cut. Being that this is a revival, couldn’t they have cut songs and worked the show a bit? I’m not familiar with how much of a strong hold he has on his shows but with all the work that was attempted to make this modern and edgy…It simply felt disconnected.

I also have a lot of problems with shows that have built-in applause holds for songs and people walking onto the stage. It feels very self indulgent, kind of like how Jaime Lloyd Co was plastered everywhere.

Anyone find it hard to LOVE this show as I did? Also…Is Jaime Lloyd related to ALW? Is his popularity (and theater company) a NEPO-BABY situation?
