Kinda nervous, is it a bad time to invest?

Background: recently widowed with two young children and finally saved enough and picked up the courage to start a 529 for the older child and dabble into investing. I’m also a total newbie when it comes to finances and have been self learning online. The 529 account I set up recently has already -$28 loss and on cashapp brokage ($50 into the SPY500 and $50 in QQQ just to try it out) also shows losses. Now I’m nervous about setting up my Roth IRA. Is it a bad time to make any sort of investments right now?
