Too much sleep makes me "more autistic"
Hi everybody! This is my first post! Please excuse my clumsy English, I'm not a native speaker.
I have this weird sleep phenomenon, and no amount of googling allowed me to find any people who have this as well.
The issue is: When I sleep too much, I feel "more autistic". This means:
- More sensitive to stimuli (noise, light, touch,...)
- Much more awkward in communication with other people
- Clumsy
- Other non-autism-related issues: Shortness of breath, low mood
When looking for reasons online, one thing I often found is that getting up late disturbs the circadian rhythm, and that this creates a feeling of jet-lag that sounds similar to some of my symptoms. But the thing is that even if I sleep a lot for two weeks, those symptoms persist, and by then the circadian rhythm should have adapted to the new sleep routine.
I have found that getting up early (after 7-8 hours of sleep) makes me feel best. I can handle the world A LOT better this way. But this creates some issues when my GF wants to sleep in on a Sunday. Because when she is with me and sleeps in, I'm not able to get myself to get up. (I always struggle with getting up, but it's especially bad when she is with me). And then I'm irritated and moody the whole day, which is obviously not ideal.
Do you notice this with you too? Do you have any explanation for this phenomenon?
