Would this be a good idea?

I (M18) started college last week. There’s a girl in one of my classes that I think is cute. I have this class everyday, and she sits in front of me, but I’ve only talked to her once. On Tuesday, our school is having a MLK commemoration thing, and one of my teachers offered extra credit if we go to it. Would that be something I could ask her to, then maybe grab dinner with her afterwards, or would that be weird? I wanna ask her out, but I’m kinda afraid to do anything lol.
