Possible exposure to rabies, do I wait for actual results before treatment or go now? Anxiety is killing me

So on Tuesday night one of the feral kittens in our neighborhood was acting strange. He looked like he was sick and wouldn’t eat, so I picked him up and put him in a cat carrier. He was lethargic and didn’t bite but I do believe he gave me a surface scratch on my hand, I also handled him to try and clean him up a bit and give him water. When his condition deteriorated (slowly started to lose motor function or be able to stand up) I took him to the emergency vet. This was yesterday, they told me he had signs of rabies. The vet told me if I wasn’t bit that I would be fine but I started immediately panicking and told her I wanted him tested to know for sure. The health department just called and told me that he’s on the way to the testing facility now but it’s hours away, I doubt I’ll hear anything until tomorrow. Until then I’m sitting here full of anxiety and can’t get my hands to stop shaking. I don’t have insurance and I know that this is going to be expensive if he tests positive, but I don’t think I can mentally sit here and wait for the results. Do I go in now and get the shots ASAP without knowing? Or do I wait for the results?
